Social media training for DAF a success

The Wombat Creative team recently spent a day with Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries staff helping them better understanding social media and how it could be used to extend outcomes.

The workshop, which focussed on social media generally and then LinkedIn for practical exercises, gave researchers, extension officers and communication staff the tools necessary to use these digital tools to grow their networks, connect with others in their fields and contribute to Reef-related outcomes. It was funded by the Department’s Reef Communication and Engagement project.

12 people attended the workshop.

One participant said the best thing was “learning about what other people wanted to use social media for” while another said that “having the time to set up our own profile under guidance” was most useful.

100% of participants said the workshop improved their understanding of how to use LinkedIn to connect, collaborate, communicate and amplify research.

Over coming months the team is travelling to Cairns and Bundaberg to deliver grant writing training to extension officers and growers working on reef projects and is delivering virtual training to Brisbane City Council’s Habitat Brisbane community groups.
