Grant writing and social media support for Charleville communities

Grant writing training for not for profit groups

Free grant writing and social media workshops will this month give Murweh Shire community groups a much-needed boost when it comes to being sustainable into the future.

Allison Edwards, who’s coordinating the workshops on behalf of Charleville Progress Association says she hopes the community will be more competitive to bring grant money into rural areas.

“Due to the ongoing drought in Murweh Shire, clubs and organisations can no longer rely on membership fees to fund their projects,” she said.

The workshops, which run back-to-back but have different content, are targeted at community groups needing to update their skills. The grant writing workshop focuses on what funding bodies are looking for in an application and the social media workshop hones in on the strategies community groups can use to achieve their missions.

Allison said clubs and organisations can use social media more effectively to increase membership and awareness of their activities and programs, but businesses can benefit too.

“Businesses can benefit by advertising their product to a wider customer base, not relying so much on in shop sales,” she said. “And tourism promoted further afield entices travellers out into rural areas to experience our amazing country.”

The workshops are free but have already booked out.
